A devastating incident on the Nagpur-Jabalpur National Highway has left the nation in shock after 35-year-old Amit Yadav was forced to tie his wife Gyarsi’s lifeless body to his motorcycle following a hit-and-run by a speeding truck. The tragedy, which unfolded on Raksha Bandhan, August 9, 2025, has fueled public outrage over the lack of help from passersby and exposed gaps in emergency response systems.
Amit and Gyarsi, residents of Lonara, Nagpur, but originally from Seoni, Madhya Pradesh, were traveling to Karanpur when a truck struck their motorcycle near Morfata around noon. Gyarsi was thrown onto the road and crushed by the truck, which fled the scene.
Despite Amit’s desperate cries for help, no passersby stopped to assist. Left with no options, he tied Gyarsi’s body to his bike to transport her to their village. A harrowing video, reportedly recorded by highway police, captured this heart-wrenching scene and went viral on X, igniting widespread condemnation with #NagpurTragedy trending.
Police intercepted Amit soon after, arranging for Gyarsi’s body to be sent for a post-mortem at Indira Gandhi Medical College in Nagpur. A case of accidental death has been registered, with further action pending the autopsy report. Social media posts, like @IndiaToday’s “Humanity fails as man carries wife’s body,” reflect public dismay. The incident has sparked calls for stricter hit-and-run laws and better roadside emergency services.
