A 12-year-old boy, Jayesh Ravindra Bokade, died after falling from the sixth-floor staircase landing of Dev Heights in Pawangaon, Nagpur, while attempting to escape a barking stray dog, police reported. The incident occurred at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, under the Kalamna Police Station limits.
According to officials, Jayesh was climbing the stairs with a friend when a stray dog began barking, causing him to panic. In his haste to flee, he lost his balance and fell through a common window shaft on the sixth floor, sustaining severe injuries. Family members rushed him to Bhavani Hospital in Pardi, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Kalamna Police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating further.
This tragedy underscores growing concerns about stray dogs in residential areas, particularly in high-rise buildings where panic-induced accidents can have fatal consequences. Similar incidents, such as a 2017 case in Nainital where a 10-year-old girl fell into a ditch escaping stray dogs, highlight the ongoing issue of stray animal management in urban settings.
