ACEN, the Ayala Group’s energy platform, and UPC Renewables have begun construction on two major renewable energy projects in India, totaling 540 MW: a 420 MW solar farm in Rajasthan’s Barmer region and a 120 MW wind farm in Karnataka, according to a joint statement. Set for completion by early 2027, these projects will generate 1,158 GWh of clean electricity annually, enough to power approximately 241,000 homes and avoid over 876,000 tonnes of carbon emissions yearly, contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy goals.
The Rajasthan solar farm, leveraging the region’s high solar irradiance, is expected to produce 767 GWh annually, while the Karnataka wind farm, utilizing strong monsoonal winds and favorable terrain, will deliver 391 GWh. The projects will create over 1,500 green jobs during construction, boosting local economies.
Patrice Clausse, ACEN International CEO, emphasized the partnership’s role in strategic capital deployment in high-potential markets like India. Brian Caffyn, UPC Renewables Chairman and CEO, highlighted the milestone, building on their prior 630 MWp solar projects, including the 420 MW Masaya Solar, 70 MW Paryapt Solar, and 140 MW Sitara Solar. Alok Nigam, CEO of UPC Renewables India, noted these projects as part of a 1 GWp+ pipeline targeted for delivery by 2027, reinforcing India’s clean energy transition.
