Bhopal’s Upper Lake turned into a display of tricolour on Thursday as a boat Tiranga Yatra was organised at the city’s Boat Club ahead of Independence Day. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav joined the celebrations and urged citizens to strengthen their commitment to the country. The event featured the national flag across the lake and patriotic music, creating a festive atmosphere ahead of August 15.
Yadav, accompanied by state minister Vishwas Sarang, inaugurated the boat rally and participated in the yatra by boarding a boat. Young kayakers and canoeists carrying the Tricolour performed a canoe slalom show on the water, attracting attention from people gathered at the Boat Club. A large floating Tiranga placed in the middle of the Upper Lake was another prominent attraction during the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Yadav described the event as a reflection of the country’s growing confidence and the patriotic spirit associated with Independence Day. He spoke about India’s growing capabilities and its expanding presence globally, noting that the country’s young population could play an important role in its continued development. He also urged citizens to work collectively for national progress.

The Chief Minister also referred to the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Madhya Pradesh, describing it as a measure aimed at strengthening the principle of equality. He noted that a common legal framework would apply to people belonging to different religious communities, presenting the move as part of the state’s broader social and legal approach.
Yadav also praised the young athletes who participated in the water-based celebrations, linking their performance to determination and the ability to overcome challenges. He noted that the kayakers and canoeists demonstrated how skill and resolve could help people meet difficult situations. Their performances while carrying the national flag formed one of the key highlights of the event.
The Tiranga Yatra was organised as part of Madhya Pradesh’s Independence Day celebrations and provided a distinctive setting for the display of national pride. With boats carrying the Tricolour moving across the Upper Lake, patriotic songs playing at the Boat Club and a floating national flag in the water, the programme added a visual and sporting element to the celebrations ahead of Independence Day.
