Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday thanked world leaders for their greetings on completing 25 years as head of government, describing the milestone as a significant moment in his public life. Modi began his tenure as head of government on October 7, 2001, when he became Gujarat Chief Minister, and has remained in government since then, serving as Prime Minister from 2014.
Leaders from several countries congratulated Modi on the occasion, highlighting his long tenure and India’s expanding engagement with the international community. Messages came from countries including Bhutan, Nigeria, Japan, the Philippines, Nepal, Belgium, Botswana and Dominica, with several leaders also referring to the strengthening of their countries’ partnerships with India.
In response to the greetings, Modi expressed his appreciation for the messages and the goodwill extended by leaders around the world. The Prime Minister has marked the anniversary by reflecting on his journey in public service while reiterating his commitment to India’s development and the goal of building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.

Among the international messages, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described Modi’s 25 years at the helm of government as a historic milestone and highlighted cooperation between India and Nigeria in areas including trade, investment, energy, defence, health, education and technology. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi also congratulated Modi and referred to his contribution to India’s development and its growing international standing.
Other leaders also conveyed their wishes. Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay offered a highly personal tribute, while leaders from the Philippines, Nepal, Belgium, Botswana and Dominica highlighted Modi’s public service and expressed hopes for continued cooperation with India. The messages reflected the broad diplomatic attention surrounding the Prime Minister’s 25-year political milestone.
The international greetings came as the BJP and the central government organised events across the country to mark Modi’s 25 years in public life. Modi has used the occasion to thank citizens for their trust and reaffirm his intention to continue working towards national development, with the 2047 target of a developed India remaining a central theme of his message.
