Relentless rainfall has inundated Telangana, triggering widespread waterlogging and chaos, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting very heavy showers across multiple districts until July 26. Hyderabad has been drenched since Tuesday night, prompting swift action from state authorities to mitigate disruptions.
Following Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s orders, State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar convened a high-level meeting with officials, including Hyderabad Police Commissioner C V Anand and GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan, to bolster preparedness. Specialized teams are stationed at 141 flood-prone spots in Hyderabad, while NDRF and SDRF forces remain on high alert for rapid response.
The IMD’s latest bulletin forecasts intense rainfall in districts such as Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 40 kmph. Venkatapuram in Mulugu recorded a staggering 22 cm of rain by Wednesday morning. Flooding has swamped low-lying areas in Karimnagar and Warangal, with reports of water entering homes.
