The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent warning for heavy rainfall at isolated locations across multiple districts of Telangana from Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14. The forecast, detailed in a bulletin released at 10:00 AM on Sunday, also predicts thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph in all districts until August 13, posing significant risks to residents and infrastructure.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) amplified the alert via a post on X, forecasting moderate to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in parts of Hyderabad between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM on Sunday, with some areas potentially receiving 30–50 mm of rainfall. “Intense storms likely this afternoon & evening — Stay Alert!” the GHMC cautioned, urging residents to prepare for potential disruptions.
Hyderabad has already experienced severe weather, with heavy downpours on Saturday night causing widespread waterlogging across the city. The Telangana Development Planning Society reported a peak rainfall of 95.3 mm in Nampally, highlighting the intensity of recent showers. As the state grapples with persistent heavy rains, authorities are on high alert, advising residents to exercise caution and avoid flood-prone areas.
