Srinagar Police, in coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and River Police, evacuated approximately 200 families from flood-affected areas of Srinagar district on Thursday as water levels in the Jhelum River began to recede, easing flood concerns in other parts of the valley.
A police spokesperson stated that quick reaction teams have been deployed to assist stranded residents. "To address the ongoing flood-like situation and severe waterlogging across the city, Srinagar Police, alongside SDRF and River Police, has launched an extensive evacuation and relocation plan to ensure the safety and well-being of affected citizens," the spokesperson said.
Teams from local police stations, supported by River Police and SDRF, are operating under the supervision of territorial officers in vulnerable areas. They successfully relocated nearly 200 families, including 24 families and houseboat residents from Peerzo Island and Basant Bagh. Additionally, 39 families were evacuated from Bonyarbal, S R Gunj, Malik Sahib, Safakadal, Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Guzarbal, and Madanyar Fateh Kadal.
Around 20 families were moved from Dedi Kadal, Habba Kadal, Zaindar Mohalla, Tankipora, Karan Nagar, Kursoo, Iqbal Colony, and Aramwari, while another 20 families were rescued from Tailbal and flood-prone areas of Hazratbal. Sixty-three individuals were also safely relocated from Panzinara-Mujgund, Bund Side, Maloora Bund, Khawajabagh Bund, Parimpora Bund, Bilal Colony Bund, Qamarwari, Rampora Chattabal Bund, Zenpora, and Tengan.

Beyond evacuations, police teams have worked to identify and reinforce potential breaches in river embankments to prevent further flooding. Contingency and quick reaction teams have been established across all police stations in the district to provide aid, manage traffic in congested areas, and deliver doorstep assistance to affected families.
Srinagar Police have set up 24/7 helplines to support citizens during emergencies. The spokesperson urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, report incidents like waterlogging, fallen trees, or electrical hazards to the nearest police station or Police Control Room, and follow official advisories while cooperating with emergency services.
