A tragic accident on the Pune-Satara Highway near Khed Shivapur claimed two lives and left one person critically injured on July 30, 2025, when a speeding truck lost control and plowed into five vehicles. The incident, which occurred around 9 am, saw the truck veer into the opposite lane, triggering a devastating chain reaction.
The truck, heading toward Satara, first collided with a container vehicle, then struck a jeep, and subsequently rammed two motorcycles. Prathmesh Mahadev Redekar, 32, and Divyam Sunil Nikam, 31, riding one of the motorcycles, were killed on impact and pronounced dead at the hospital. The jeep driver, Sanjay Khatpe, sustained severe injuries and is receiving treatment.
Police reported that the truck’s high speed likely caused the driver to lose control, leading to the catastrophic crash across the Satara-Pune lane. The truck driver has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as investigations continue. The incident underscores the dangers of reckless driving on busy highways, leaving authorities and locals grappling with the aftermath of the deadly collision.
