A devastating accident claimed four lives, including two children, when a pickup vehicle veered into the Sirhind canal near Jagera bridge in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Sunday night. The vehicle, carrying around 25 devotees returning from Mata Naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh, plunged into the canal after the driver lost control while attempting to overtake another vehicle, police reported.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain and Senior Superintendent of Police Jyoti Yadav quickly arrived at the scene to oversee rescue efforts. Most passengers were rescued and rushed to nearby hospitals, but three remain missing. Authorities have recovered four bodies so far, according to the deputy commissioner.
The incident has left the local community in shock as efforts continue to locate the missing individuals and support the affected families.
