BJP MP Sanjay Jaiswal on Sunday lauded the decision to construct a memorial in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, to honour the hundreds of Kar Sevaks who laid down their lives during the Ram Temple movement. He said the memorial would serve as a lasting tribute to faith, culture, and sacrifice, and thanked the Ram Temple Trust for allotting space near the temple complex.
Calling the initiative historic, Jaiswal said the memorial would immortalise India’s civilisational values and spiritual traditions. He described it as a symbol of gratitude toward those who stood firm in defence of religious belief, adding that the sacrifices made during the movement form an inseparable part of the nation’s history.
The BJP MP specifically recalled the sacrifice of Ram Kothari and Sharad Kothari, brothers from Kolkata who played a prominent role in the 1990 Ram Janmabhoomi movement. The two were among the first Kar Sevaks to reach Ayodhya, where they hoisted a saffron flag at the disputed structure before being killed in police firing days later.

Jaiswal said the memorial would honour not only individual martyrs but also the countless devotees who contributed to the movement over centuries. According to him, the sacrifices of millions who fought for the Ram Temple over nearly five and a half centuries would now be permanently preserved through the proposed structure.
He further said that a grand temple would be built at the original spot where Ram Lalla was seated before the idol was moved to its permanent sanctum. The memorial, he added, would stand as a reminder of unwavering devotion and the collective resolve that ultimately led to the temple’s construction.
The Kothari brothers’ legacy continues to be remembered across the country, with statues installed in multiple cities and roads named in their honour. Their family was invited to the Ram Temple’s Bhumi Pujan, recognising their contribution to the movement. Jaiswal made these remarks while attending an event in Bettiah, Bihar, where he also launched a ‘Made in India’ awareness campaign promoting the use of Swadeshi products to support Atmanirbhar Bharat.
