Rajasthan is reeling from widespread rainfall that drenched nearly the entire state in the 24 hours leading up to Thursday morning, according to the Jaipur Meteorological Centre. The downpour, ranging from moderate to heavy, hit multiple regions, with eastern Rajasthan experiencing particularly intense showers. Veja in Dungarpur recorded the highest rainfall at 90 mm, signaling the severity of the weather system.
The Met Centre attributed the deluge to a low-pressure system originating in the Bay of Bengal near the Odisha coast. This system is expected to sustain light to moderate rains across parts of Rajasthan on Thursday, with southern regions likely to face moderate to heavy showers. The forecast warns of an escalation in rainfall activity on August 29 and 30, particularly in southeast Rajasthan, where Kota and Udaipur divisions may see heavy downpours. Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions are also bracing for moderate to heavy rains during this period.
Looking ahead, the weather centre predicts that rain activities will persist into the first week of September across most of Rajasthan, except for border areas. Authorities have urged residents to prepare for potential disruptions, including waterlogging and traffic delays, especially in low-lying areas. The Met Centre advised farmers to safeguard crops and residents to avoid travel during heavy rain spells. As the state navigates this wet spell, officials are monitoring the situation closely to mitigate impacts on infrastructure and daily life.
