Punjab Police delivered a significant blow to a Pakistan-orchestrated terror plot by arresting two operatives of the banned Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) in Ferozepur, just a day before India’s 79th Independence Day. The operation, led by the Counter Intelligence unit, foiled a plan to attack government establishments with grenades, masterminded by Pakistan-based BKI operative Harwinder Singh Rinda, allegedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the arrests on X, stating that the operatives were acting under instructions from handlers in the UK, USA, and Europe. “Acting on precise intelligence, Counter Intelligence, #Ferozepur dismantled a major terror plot by apprehending two BKI operatives,” Yadav posted. Police recovered two hand grenades and a Beretta 9mm pistol with live cartridges from the accused.
The arrests come amid heightened security concerns, with Punjab Police recently busting another BKI module in Rajasthan, where five operatives were nabbed for planning attacks in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. One suspect was injured in a retaliatory exchange of fire, and weapons, including a grenade and pistol, were seized. Investigations suggest Rinda, in coordination with foreign handlers like Zeeshan Akhtar and Mannu Agwan, has been pushing terror activities, including a grenade attack on a Nawanshahr liquor store on August 7.
