The Puducherry Legislative Assembly passed the ₹14,300-crore Budget for the financial year 2026-27 after completing discussions on demands for grants. Chief Minister N. Rangasamy moved the Appropriation Bill, 2026, following replies from Ministers on the demands for grants. The Bill was passed unanimously, authorising the government to withdraw funds from the treasury and use them for various expenditure planned for the financial year.

The passage of the Appropriation Bill marked the completion of the Assembly’s consideration of the government’s financial proposals for 2026-27. The Budget provides the financial framework for the Union Territory’s administration and development programmes during the year. With the Bill receiving unanimous approval, the government has obtained the legislative authorisation required to draw money from the treasury for approved expenditure.

During the proceedings, Ministers responded to questions and discussions concerning the demands for grants allocated to their respective departments. The consideration of these demands formed a key part of the Assembly’s Budget proceedings before the Chief Minister introduced the Appropriation Bill. The unanimous passage of the legislation allowed the government to formally proceed with expenditure under the approved Budget.

Rangasamy also said the government remained committed to constructing a new Legislative Assembly building for Puducherry. The proposed project is part of the government’s stated plans concerning the future infrastructure of the legislature. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the project while the Assembly was considering and completing its financial business.

The Assembly completed its scheduled business after the Budget and Appropriation Bill were passed. Following the conclusion of the proceedings, the Puducherry Legislative Assembly was adjourned sine die on Monday. An adjournment sine die brings the sitting to an end without fixing a date for the House to meet again, with a future session to be convened separately according to constitutional and legislative procedures.

The approval of the ₹14,300-crore Budget enables the Puducherry government to implement its financial plans for 2026-27 within the expenditure authorised by the legislature. The unanimous approval of the Appropriation Bill provides the legal authority for withdrawals from the treasury and government spending under the approved demands for grants. The government will now proceed with implementing the Budget, while its plans, including the proposed new Assembly building, remain part of its stated priorities.
