President Droupadi Murmu, India’s first tribal head of state, celebrated three years in office on July 25, 2025, emphasizing her commitment to connecting underprivileged and backward classes with the nation’s development. Speaking at the launch of initiatives marking her tenure, the 67-year-old president, sworn in on July 25, 2022, expressed satisfaction at increased citizen engagement with Rashtrapati Bhavan, which has welcomed over 16.9 lakh visitors since 2022, including 11 lakh to Amrit Udyan, 2.5 lakh to the main estate, and 3.4 lakh to its museum.
President Murmu launched several projects, including a plan to make Rashtrapati Bhavan “Net Zero” by March 2027, following 50 accessibility recommendations to make the estate, Amrit Udyan, and museum divyangjan-friendly. She introduced ‘e-Upahaar Season 2,’ auctioning over 250 gift items received by presidents, with proceeds aiding child welfare. New visitor facilities, such as a facilitation center at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Nilayam Nikunj in Hyderabad, and a cafeteria at Rashtrapati Niwas, Mashobra, were also unveiled, alongside a revamped gym at the President’s Estate.
An e-book chronicling her third year highlighted her global outreach, with historic visits to Fiji, Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi, earning her Fiji’s highest award and honorary doctorates in Algeria and Slovakia. Domestically, she visited Siachen, addressed 25 convocations, and promoted inclusivity through events like ‘Purple Fest’ for divyangjan and ‘Tribal Connect’ with tribal leaders. Her interactions with women from self-help groups underscored women-led development. The Rashtrapati Bhavan websites, now in 22 Indian languages, enhance accessibility, reflecting Murmu’s vision of an inclusive presidency.
