President Droupadi Murmu, addressing the 13th annual convocation of Ravenshaw University in Cuttack on Tuesday, highlighted the transformative power of modern technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, 3D printing, and cloud computing, which have reshaped thinking and work. However, she cautioned students to guard against their misuse, emphasizing responsible adoption.
Praising the university’s use of advanced tech, Murmu celebrated the academic dominance of female students, who topped 21 of 27 departments this year. “Over five years, girls have outperformed boys, with post-graduate toppers outnumbering boys by over three-and-a-half times,” she said, noting India’s shift toward women-led development. She also commended the rising enrollment of tribal, underprivileged, and differently-abled students.
Urging graduates to approach life’s challenges with diligence, Murmu described their transition from academia to the “bigger university of life and society.” She encouraged entrepreneurship, saying, “Don’t just seek jobs; create them.” Highlighting India’s spirit of “nation first,” she cited the contributions of soldiers, farmers, scientists, and others in elevating national pride.
