Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday presented a multi-sector development roadmap for the Bastar division during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Parliament House, seeking central assistance for major infrastructure, energy and healthcare initiatives. The Chief Minister highlighted the state’s development priorities and outlined plans to accelerate economic growth while improving connectivity and essential services in key regions. During the meeting, Sai also briefed the Prime Minister on Chhattisgarh’s recent economic, social and regulatory developments.
He presented the state’s vision to emerge as a hub for next-generation industries and emphasised the need for coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state to achieve long-term growth objectives. The Chief Minister placed three major requests before the Prime Minister, focusing on energy security, agriculture support and healthcare improvements. According to officials, these proposals are aimed at strengthening industrial capacity, improving services in remote areas and creating better opportunities for communities across the state.
One of the key proposals discussed was the early approval of a proposed gas-based urea plant in Rajnandgaon, estimated to involve an investment of around Rs 10,500 crore. Sai informed the Prime Minister that the project had already received state-level clearance and land allocation. The proposed facility is expected to support fertiliser availability, strengthen agricultural supply chains and contribute to industrial development in the region. Sai also sought grid power connectivity for 461 security-sensitive villages located in areas previously affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). The Chief Minister said these villages needed to be connected to the permanent electricity network to ensure reliable and long-term power access.

The move is aimed at improving basic infrastructure and supporting development in remote areas that have historically faced connectivity challenges. The meeting also focused on broader development plans for Bastar, a region that has witnessed challenges related to infrastructure, security and access to public services. The state government has been working on improving facilities in the region through investments in connectivity, healthcare, education and economic opportunities. Sai’s presentation comes as Chhattisgarh seeks greater central support for accelerating development projects across the state. The Chief Minister highlighted the importance of collaboration between state and central authorities to implement large-scale initiatives and address regional disparities.
The proposed projects are part of Chhattisgarh’s broader strategy to promote industrial growth while ensuring inclusive development in rural and remote areas. By seeking assistance for energy, agriculture and healthcare sectors, the state government aims to strengthen essential infrastructure and create conditions for sustainable economic progress. The Prime Minister’s Office has not yet announced details of further action on the proposals discussed during the meeting. However, the interaction marks an effort by the Chhattisgarh government to seek support for major development initiatives and advance its roadmap for transforming Bastar into a more connected and economically active region.
