The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in coordination with the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), conducted a raid on Thursday at the residence of suspected terrorist Shahnawaz Alam in Ansar Nagar under Pelawal police jurisdiction in Hazaribagh. The operation is part of a broader probe into terror networks linked to Alam, who was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell in October 2023 following an investigation into extremist activities.
Sources indicate that the raid was initiated based on intelligence provided by a previously arrested doctor associated with the case. The NIA and ATS teams are questioning individuals present inside the residence, while additional police forces have been deployed to secure the area. Officials have withheld further details, citing the sensitive and ongoing nature of the operation.
During the raid, authorities recovered a printing machine, believed to have been used for producing documents, posters, or other objectionable materials. Investigators are examining the seized equipment to determine the extent of its use in facilitating extremist propaganda or operational communication.

Shahnawaz Alam, a native of Hazaribagh, has a prior criminal history, including a 2019 conviction for robbery and theft. After securing bail in December 2020, he reportedly came into contact with ISIS handlers and became a key figure in the Pune module case. Officials suspect that his network may continue to operate in Jharkhand, making the Hazaribagh raid strategically important.
Investigators note that Alam received terrorist training in Pune forests and has maintained links with radical elements. Thursday’s operation is part of an ongoing intelligence-driven effort to dismantle remaining networks associated with him and prevent potential terrorist activities in the region.
