In a significant step toward bolstering Maharashtra’s security framework, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, met with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday to discuss the current maritime security situation and coastal defence strategies for the state. The high-level meeting, held in Mumbai, underscored the Navy’s operational readiness and its pivotal role in safeguarding India’s western coastline.
Swaminathan briefed Fadnavis on the Western Naval Command’s preparedness, highlighting measures to strengthen maritime security along Maharashtra’s extensive shoreline, a critical economic and strategic zone. The discussions emphasized proactive steps to counter potential threats and enhance coastal defence mechanisms, reflecting the Navy’s commitment to national security.
In a separate meeting, Lt Gen DS Kushwah, General Officer Commanding for Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Goa Area, engaged with the Chief Minister to deliberate on military-civil fusion in the contemporary security landscape. Key topics included the Army’s critical contributions to recent flood relief operations, rear area security, and welfare initiatives for veterans and ‘Veer Naris’ (widows of armed forces personnel). The talks showcased the robust synergy between the Army and the state government in addressing humanitarian crises, ensuring hinterland security, and supporting ex-servicemen and their families.
