Prime Minister Narendra Modi and prominent Congress leaders paid heartfelt tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 81st birth anniversary, celebrated as Sadbhavana Diwas. A commemorative event at Gandhi’s memorial, Vir Bhumi, saw Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, general secretary K.C. Venugopal, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra honoring the late leader’s contributions to India’s progress.
In a post on X, Modi wrote, “My tributes to former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji on his birth anniversary.” Kharge lauded Gandhi as a visionary who “inspired hope in millions and propelled India into the 21st century.” He highlighted Gandhi’s transformative initiatives, including lowering the voting age to 18, strengthening Panchayati Raj, spearheading the telecom and IT revolution, advancing women’s empowerment, introducing universal vaccination programs, and implementing a new education policy focused on inclusivity.
Priyanka Gandhi, attending the memorial with her family, shared an emotional tribute on X: “We inherited compassion, love, and patriotism from you. We will follow this path forever, unshaken and unstoppable.” The Congress leaders emphasized Gandhi’s role in modernizing India and fostering peace through landmark accords during his tenure from 1984 to 1989.
