Heavy overnight rains battered Mumbai, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and significant traffic disruptions across the city, civic officials reported on Monday. After a brief lull in rainfall earlier this month, the metropolis was hit by intense showers, particularly affecting the eastern and western suburbs.
The downpour caused flooding in several areas, with the Andheri subway closed due to water accumulation, forcing traffic diversions. Motorists faced slow movement on the Eastern and Western Express Highways during morning rush hours, exacerbated by rain and other factors. Commuters also reported minor delays in local train services, though operations continued.
In the 24 hours ending at 8 AM, the island city recorded 23.45 mm of rainfall, eastern suburbs 36.42 mm, and western suburbs 50.02 mm, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert for Mumbai, forecasting moderate rain with possible thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas for the next 24 hours.

Tidal conditions added to concerns, with a high tide of 3.91 meters at 9:19 AM and another of 3.38 meters expected at 8:37 PM, alongside a low tide of 2.28 meters at 3:03 PM. The BMC urged residents to stay cautious, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding, as the city braces for more rain.
