The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the second time on Thursday, halting proceedings until 4 pm as Opposition members persisted with noisy protests over issues, including alleged irregularities in Bihar's poll roll revision. The disruptions, marked by slogan-shouting and members storming the Well of the House, derailed attempts to conduct meaningful discussions.
When the House reconvened at 2 pm, presiding officer Awadhesh Prasad pleaded with Opposition members to return to their seats, but the unrelenting uproar forced an adjournment. Earlier, Speaker Om Birla had expressed frustration, questioning whether the public elected members to merely engage in sloganeering. “The House is for discussing issues, not this behavior,” Birla remarked before adjourning proceedings until 2 pm after less than seven minutes of chaos.
Despite the turmoil, the Lok Sabha managed to pass a resolution congratulating scientists for the successful launch of a GSLV rocket, deploying an earth observation satellite developed collaboratively by ISRO and NASA. The repeated adjournments highlight ongoing tensions, with the Opposition’s protests stifling parliamentary progress and drawing sharp rebukes from the Chair for undermining the House’s purpose.
