DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi fiercely criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Lok Sabha debate on Operation Sindoor, accusing the self-proclaimed “Vishwaguru” of failing India’s people following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. While acknowledging the government’s inclusion of Opposition MPs in global delegations to explain Operation Sindoor, Kanimozhi lamented that such opportunities arose from tragedy, not triumph, stating, “Some opportunities are not to be celebrated but mourned.”
Kanimozhi questioned the government’s security lapses, pointing to a series of recent attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, including nine pilgrims killed in Reasi in May 2024, and incidents in October and November 2024, alongside the Pahalgam massacre. “Why do these attacks keep happening if we are a Vishwaguru?” she asked, highlighting ignored intelligence from R&AW and IB about suspicious activities. She accused Home Minister Amit Shah of deflecting blame onto the Opposition instead of addressing these failures.
“The Vishwaguru has failed us,” Kanimozhi declared, referencing the 240 kg of RDX used in the Pulwama attack and the government’s unfulfilled promises to prevent future incidents. She criticized the lack of action despite prior warnings, questioning why the government allowed terrorists to strike again. The Thoothukkudi MP’s remarks underscored a broader Opposition narrative challenging the BJP’s claims of restoring peace in Kashmir, especially after the brutal attack in Baisaran Valley.
