India has forged a landmark agreement with Zambia to enhance trade alliances between cooperatives of both nations, Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The move is part of a broader strategy to bolster India’s cooperative export ecosystem and expand its global market presence.
Signed on July 18, the memorandum of understanding (MoU) aims to foster collaboration between Indian and Zambian cooperatives, facilitating trade and providing critical market access. Shah emphasized that the Ministry of Cooperation is actively working through Indian missions abroad to strengthen this ecosystem. The ministry is equipping the National Cooperative Exports Ltd (NCEL) with vital market intelligence and connecting it with international importers to drive export growth.
Shah further revealed that NCEL has also secured MoUs with Senegal and Indonesia-based entities, Sinton Vantage Trading and PT Sinton Surini Nusantara, to expand cooperative trade networks. These agreements mark a significant step in promoting India’s cooperative sector on the global stage, enabling small-scale producers and cooperatives to access international markets.

The initiative aligns with India’s vision to empower its cooperative sector, which plays a pivotal role in agriculture, dairy, and other key industries. By leveraging diplomatic channels and strategic partnerships, the ministry aims to create a robust framework for cooperative exports, ensuring sustainable growth and economic benefits for Indian producers.
As India deepens ties with Zambia and other nations, the agreements signal a new era of cooperative-driven trade, with potential to transform rural economies and enhance global competitiveness. The ministry’s efforts are expected to open new avenues for Indian cooperatives, fostering innovation and collaboration in the international market.
