The high-tech medical equipment that served over seven lakh patients at the Maha Kumbh Mela’s Central Hospital is set to get a second life, enhancing healthcare across Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday, state officials announced plans to redistribute these advanced tools—from ICU beds to AI-powered systems—to districts statewide, based on needs outlined by local chief medical officers (CMOs).
During the Mela, a 100-bed Central Hospital at Prayagraj’s Parade Ground stood as a hub of cutting-edge care, offering specialized services like ICU, dental, orthopedic, gynecological, and pediatric treatment. Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Additional Health Director, explained, “This was a high-tech facility tailored for the event. Now, we’re working to allocate its equipment—beds included—to districts, pending approval from the Prayagraj Commissioner.” The move aims to bolster modern medical services beyond the pilgrimage.
The Maha Kumbh medical network extended beyond the Central Hospital, featuring two 25-bed sub-central hospitals, eight 20-bed sector hospitals, two 20-bed infectious disease units, and 10 first-aid posts. Dr. Gaurav Dubey, the event’s Nodal Medical Officer, noted, “All these facilities relied on advanced gear. Soon, that equipment will roll out to UP districts, leveling up patient care statewide.”
Among the standout tools was a 10-bed ICU at the Central Hospital, equipped with AI-enabled cameras that monitored patients and alerted doctors in real time. This state-of-the-art setup is slated for deployment in other hospitals soon. Another gem: a hi-tech microphone that instantly translates 22 regional and 19 international languages into Hindi or English, breaking down language barriers between doctors and patients. Officials confirmed this device will also spread to facilities across UP. “The technology that powered Maha Kumbh’s medical success will now play a key role in improving treatment statewide,” an official said.
