An eight-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 17-year-old boy in her home in Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh, on Thursday, April 17, 2025.
The incident occurred in the Ater Road police station (rural) area, in the basement of the victim’s house, while her mother was occupied with household chores and her father was at work, according to investigating officer Mukesh Shakya.
The accused, a Class 10 student who performed domestic chores in the neighborhood, reportedly trespassed into the girl’s home around 4:00–4:30 p.m., presuming she was alone. He lured the child to the basement, where the assault took place.

The victim’s mother, alerted by her daughter’s screams, rushed to the scene with neighbors and apprehended the boy before notifying the police.
A medical examination confirmed the sexual assault, and the victim is under medical supervision. The accused has been detained and charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police are conducting further investigations, including a medical examination of the accused and inquiries into whether he has a history of similar offenses.
The case has sparked outrage locally, with residents demanding stringent punishment.
This incident follows a disturbing pattern of child sexual assault cases in Madhya Pradesh, which reported 1,262 child rape cases in 2011, the highest in India, per a 2007 study. The POCSO Act ensures child-friendly trial procedures and mandates swift evidence collection, but delays in justice remain a concern, as seen in similar cases where victims face prolonged trauma and social stigma.
