A chilling incident unfolded in Kolu Pabuji village, Phalodi tehsil, Jodhpur, where a couple allegedly murdered their three young children before attempting to take their own lives, police said Tuesday.
The gruesome act, reported on Monday night, has left the community in shock.
Phalodi Superintendent of Police Pooja Awana identified the couple as Shivlal Jat and Jatno Devo, who, following a heated domestic dispute, poisoned their children—Harish (9), Kiran (5), and Natthu (3)—then strangled them.

In a horrifying escalation, they slit the children’s wrists and throats with a blade and knife. The couple then turned the blade on themselves, attempting suicide by cutting their wrists. Relatives discovered blood pooling in the courtyard Tuesday morning, alerting police.
Responding swiftly, authorities found Shivlal and Jatno unconscious amid a blood-soaked scene. The children were rushed to Phalodi District Hospital but were declared dead on arrival. The couple, critically injured, are under treatment at Umaid Hospital in Jodhpur. Police recovered an empty poison bottle, a blade, and a knife from the house, now sealed for forensic analysis.
Awana said initial inquiries point to a marital argument as the trigger, but a deeper probe is underway. “We’re questioning family members and awaiting the couple’s statements once they stabilize,” she added.
The children’s bodies are in the mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examination to confirm the cause of death.
