A massive landslide struck Chokker village in Noradhar, Sirmaur district, on Saturday morning, eroding approximately 200 metres of a hillside and posing a threat to five nearby houses, officials reported. Fortunately, the five individuals present at the site escaped unharmed.
The exact cause remains unclear, though locals attribute it to the sudden bursting of an underground water source, leading to torrents of water and debris cascading down. Viral videos circulating online capture the chaotic scene, with panicked residents shouting warnings to steer clear.
Since the monsoon onset on June 20, Himachal Pradesh has endured 133 major landslides, 95 flash floods, and 45 cloudbursts, causing widespread disruption.

The local meteorological station forecasts moderate rainfall statewide for the next six days, issuing a yellow alert for heavy rains, thunderstorms, and lightning in Una and Bilaspur districts, alongside isolated thunderstorms in Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur on Saturday. Light to moderate showers are expected at scattered locations from September 7 to 12, with potential heavy spells in isolated areas.
The state has recorded 943.2 mm of average rainfall from June 1 to September 6, exceeding the normal 648.1 mm by 46%, intensifying vulnerability to such disasters. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely, urging residents in prone areas to remain vigilant.
