Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has thanked Cockroach Janta Party chief Saurav Das for highlighting issues affecting students in government schools across Punjab. Das led a delegation of the pressure group to Ludhiana as part of its “School Thik Karo” campaign, which seeks to assess school infrastructure and bring deficiencies to the attention of the state authorities.

Responding to the concerns raised by the delegation, Kejriwal said the issues would be taken up with the Punjab government. He stated that the party would work with the state administration to ensure that the concerns were addressed immediately. His remarks came after Das shared details of the inspection and the problems identified during the team’s visit to schools in the state.

Das said the delegation was impressed by the facilities available at Punjab’s Schools of Eminence. He specifically highlighted infrastructure such as swimming pools, ramps, artificial intelligence laboratories and computer laboratories. According to Das, the facilities at some of these schools were better in several respects than those available in private educational institutions.

However, the delegation also identified shortcomings that required attention. Das said the team had conveyed its observations to Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. He stated that the minister had agreed to meet the delegation and assured them that swift action would be taken to resolve the concerns raised during the inspection.

The CJP team also visited Government Senior Secondary School in Jandiali, an institution established in 1936. Das said the school had largely retained its old infrastructure despite maintenance work carried out over the years. He expressed concern about the condition of the building and urged the Punjab government to focus on improving facilities for students studying in older government schools.

Punjab has around 19,000 government schools, while the state government has announced 118 Schools of Eminence. Although some of the proposed institutions have been inaugurated with upgraded facilities, several schools continue to face infrastructure-related challenges. The inspection has drawn attention to the need for regular maintenance, modernisation and timely intervention to ensure that students across government schools receive adequate educational facilities.
