The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several districts of Andhra Pradesh, warning of isolated heavy rainfall as a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh continues to influence weather conditions in the State. Anakapalli district recorded widespread rainfall on Thursday, while several other parts of Andhra Pradesh received light to moderate showers. The current spell has also provided relief from the recent sweltering conditions.

The IMD’s Amaravati centre said the weather system is expected to continue influencing rainfall over the State in the coming days. Forecasts indicate that precipitation could persist until September 12, with some areas likely to receive heavier showers. The alert advises residents and local authorities in the affected districts to remain cautious, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and other impacts from intense rainfall.

Along with the rainfall warning, the weather department has forecast strong winds along the North Andhra Pradesh coast on Friday. Squally winds with speeds of around 40 kmph to 50 kmph are very likely to occur over coastal areas. The combination of strong winds and unsettled weather conditions has prompted authorities to issue a specific advisory for fishermen operating along the North Coastal Andhra Pradesh region.

The IMD has advised fishermen not to venture into the sea on Friday because of the expected rough conditions. The warning is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring the safety of fishing communities as strong winds develop along the coast. Fishermen who are already at sea are also expected to exercise caution and follow instructions issued by local authorities and weather agencies.

The rainfall has brought a welcome change after a period of intense heat across several parts of Andhra Pradesh. While widespread showers have provided temporary relief from high temperatures, heavy rain in isolated locations can also create localised problems, including waterlogging and difficult travel conditions. Urban areas such as Vijayawada have already witnessed water accumulation on some roads following Thursday’s rainfall.

Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled as the low-pressure system continues to affect the region. Residents in districts under the rainfall alert have been advised to follow updates from the IMD and local authorities, particularly where heavy showers are forecast. Coastal communities should also take note of the wind advisory and avoid entering the sea on Friday until conditions improve.
