Himachal Pradesh remained largely dry on Thursday, with light showers recorded at isolated locations, even as the weather department issued alerts for rainfall in several parts of the state. The Shimla Meteorological Centre issued a yellow warning for light rain in 10 districts and an orange alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places on August 14, 17 and 18. The forecast comes as several parts of the hill state continue to deal with disruptions caused by the ongoing monsoon. According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, 200 roads remained closed across Himachal Pradesh.

Mandi reported the highest number of road closures at 64, followed by Kullu with 60 and Shimla with 32. Chamba had 24 blocked roads, while Sirmaur reported six, Kangra five, Una four, Lahaul-Spiti three and Kinnaur two. The closures have continued to affect connectivity in several districts, particularly in areas vulnerable to landslides and other monsoon-related disruptions. The meteorological centre issued a yellow warning for light rainfall in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra, Kullu and Chamba on Thursday. The warning indicates the possibility of rainfall in these districts even though conditions remained mostly dry across the state.

Authorities and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to remain alert as weather conditions can change rapidly in the mountainous terrain. An orange alert has been issued for August 14, 17 and 18, warning of heavy rain at isolated places. The forecast raises the possibility of further disruption to roads and essential services, particularly in districts that have already experienced infrastructure damage. Heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh can trigger landslides, flash floods and falling debris, potentially affecting transport and public utilities.

Despite Thursday's largely dry conditions, authorities remain watchful because of the forecast for heavier rainfall over the coming days.
