The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over isolated areas of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on July 28 and 29, warning residents and authorities to remain alert during the upcoming monsoon spell. The weather department issued a special bulletin on Sunday, predicting intense rainfall activity in parts of the northern region and advising people to take adequate safety measures to minimise risks associated with heavy downpours. According to the IMD, isolated places in the northern and eastern parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall exceeding 12 cm during the two-day period.

The weather agency has also predicted heavy rainfall at isolated locations in the same regions on July 27, July 30 and July 31, indicating that the monsoon system is expected to remain active over the area for several days. The IMD said the anticipated rainfall could lead to disruptions in normal life, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and flooding. Heavy showers over a short duration can affect road connectivity, cause traffic congestion and create challenges for commuters.
