Torrential rains battered Rajasthan, causing widespread devastation, including house collapses, landslides, and flooding, with at least two fatalities reported, officials confirmed on Monday.
The relentless downpour has disrupted normal life, prompting school closures and traffic chaos across multiple districts. In Bharatpur’s Deeg area, a tragic house collapse in Dubokar village late Sunday claimed the lives of a brother and sister. Four family members, including their mother, were seriously injured.
In Sawai Madhopur, a government school building in Chauth Ka Barwara partially collapsed early Monday, narrowly avoiding tragedy as it occurred before students arrived. In Udaipur, a landslide near Jhadol blocked the Udaipur-Jhadol highway, stranding vehicles, while an elderly man was swept away crossing a culvert on the Morel river in Sayra.

The Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in Jalore, Sirohi, Barmer, and Jaisalmer, with winds up to 65 kmph, and a yellow alert for moderate rain in six other districts. Mount Abu recorded 250 mm of rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8:30 AM Monday, the highest in the state. The deep depression over southwest Rajasthan and Pakistan is expected to weaken by September 9, reducing rainfall intensity. School closures were enforced in Udaipur, Salumber, Jalore, Dungarpur, Sirohi, Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Balotra to ensure safety.
Authorities are on high alert, monitoring rivers and streams swollen by the deluge, as Rajasthan braces for more rain before conditions improve.
