Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati will unveil its state-of-the-art international terminal in November 2025, marking a significant milestone for Northeast India's connectivity. During a late-night inspection on Wednesday with a delegation from Bhutan's Gelephu Mindful City, Sarma reviewed the near-complete terminal, designed to elevate travel experiences and strengthen regional ties.
"This modern infrastructure will transform air travel in the Northeast," Sarma stated, revealing plans to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate the facility. The terminal is expected to boost connectivity not only within India but also with neighboring countries, particularly Bhutan, fostering tourism and trade. The Bhutanese delegation praised the terminal’s advanced design, noting its potential to enhance cross-border travel.
In addition to the terminal, Sarma announced the construction of five new foot over-bridges between Khanapara and Jalukbari in Guwahati to improve pedestrian safety and ease urban mobility. These bridges aim to address the city’s growing traffic challenges, ensuring safer road crossings for residents.

The new terminal features cutting-edge amenities, including advanced check-in systems, spacious lounges, and eco-friendly designs, aligning with India’s push for sustainable infrastructure.
