A landslide struck temporary infrastructure at the Ratle Hydroelectric Power Project in Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday morning, triggering an immediate and coordinated response from local authorities. The swift action led to the successful rescue of five individuals trapped in the debris, officials reported.
The incident occurred in the Dhrabshala area of Kishtwar, where a sudden landslide impacted tin sheds used as washroom facilities at the Ratle power project, a significant 850 MW hydroelectric initiative on the Chenab River. The landslide caused structural damage, trapping five workers inside the collapsed sheds. Rescue operations were promptly initiated by the district administration, with teams working efficiently to extricate the trapped individuals.
Of the five rescued, three sustained injuries requiring medical attention and were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital in Doda for treatment. The other two, while shaken, were reported to be in stable condition and did not require hospitalisation. All five individuals are now safe, and authorities are ensuring they receive comprehensive medical care and necessary support, including counselling and assistance for their families.

The situation is under control, and we are assessing the site for further risks."
Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who represents the Udhampur constituency, which includes Kishtwar, took to X to commend the district administration's rapid response. "I have spoken to DC Kishtwar Pankaj Sharma regarding the landslide at the Ratle power project in Dhrabshala. I must appreciate the district administration for their prompt action in rescuing around five persons who could have otherwise been fatal victims of this disaster," Singh posted. He further assured that the injured are receiving proper medical treatment and that all necessary assistance, including logistical and financial support, is being extended to those affected.
