Jagdeep Dhankhar, who stepped down as India’s vice president on July 21 this year citing health reasons, has not yet been allotted an official residence, sources close to him revealed on Tuesday. He resigned on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament and vacated the Vice President’s Enclave in September.
After leaving the official residence, Dhankhar moved to a private farmhouse in Chhatarpur, South Delhi, owned by INLD leader Abhay Chautala. This temporary arrangement has raised questions about the delay in providing him the type VIII bungalow he is entitled to as a former vice president.
On August 22, Dhankhar formally wrote to the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs requesting allocation of his official residence. Despite the request, no accommodation has been provided to date, according to people close to him.

As per government rules, a former vice president is entitled to a pension of nearly Rs 2 lakh per month and official facilities including one personal secretary, one additional personal secretary, a personal assistant, a physician, a nursing officer, and four personal attendants. The type VIII bungalow is part of these entitlements.
After the death of a former vice president, the spouse is entitled to a smaller type VII residence. The delay in providing Dhankhar with his official accommodation has sparked discussions about administrative lapses in ensuring timely provision of post-office facilities to high-ranking officials.
