A fire broke out in a flat on the 11th floor of the 22-storey Vaishnav Height building on Rani Sati Marg, opposite Balaji Hospital in Goregaon (East), Mumbai, around 3:30 pm on Sunday, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials. The blaze spread to a 600 sq. ft. area on the 12th floor, filling upper levels with heavy smoke, but no injuries have been reported so far.
Eight fire engines, along with water tankers and specialized equipment, were deployed to combat the fire, which was classified as a Level II incident by 3:49 pm, indicating a moderate-level emergency requiring additional resources. Senior fire officials, including the Deputy Fire Officer and Assistant Divisional Fire Officers, are overseeing the operation, which continued into the evening as teams worked to contain the flames and prevent further spread.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with preliminary assessments suggesting it originated in a closed room before spreading upward.
