Cauvery Delta Irrigation Farmers’ Association president KV Elankeeran launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high-profile natural farming conference in Coimbatore, branding the entire event “completely artificial” and accusing the Centre of orchestrating a carefully staged spectacle to mislead the nation about its agricultural record.
Addressing reporters in Chidambaram, Elankeeran charged that Modi deliberately chose Tamil Nadu to project an image of farmer support because no genuine farmers’ gathering would accept him in northern states after the broken promise to double farm incomes by 2022 and the controversial three farm laws that triggered over a year of historic protests and claimed more than 740 lives before their eventual withdrawal.
He accused Coordination Committee of All Farmers Associations president PR Pandian of betraying the farming community by providing legitimacy to the prime minister’s visit, alleging Pandian was being used as a convenient tool to create an illusion of grassroots backing while the vast majority of Indian farmers remain deeply opposed to the Union government’s policies.

Elankeeran highlighted the glaring contradiction of a prime minister who permitted widespread sale of genetically modified seeds now presiding over a natural farming conference, describing the irony as deliberate political theatre designed solely for international consumption rather than addressing ground realities of debt-ridden farmers and falling rural incomes.
Joined by Cuddalore district president KRG Tamilvaanan, district secretary A Selvakumar, ARA Saravanan, and other senior functionaries, Elankeeran warned that such orchestrated events cannot mask the growing anger among farmers nationwide and will only deepen distrust toward the Centre ahead of future electoral battles in rural constituencies.
