Senior Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh met Chief Minister Mohan Yadav at the Chief Minister’s residence in Bhopal on Friday, raising concerns over ongoing wheat procurement issues in the state. The meeting comes amid heightened political attention on farmer grievances during the peak procurement season.
During the discussion, Singh highlighted multiple operational challenges being reported at wheat procurement centres across Madhya Pradesh. He pointed to delays in slot booking, limited procurement capacity, and logistical bottlenecks at mandis, which he said were causing inconvenience to farmers. According to his office, he urged the state government to ensure smooth procurement at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) so that farmers are not compelled to resort to distress sales.
Singh reportedly emphasized that procurement systems must be strengthened urgently to handle the seasonal surge in arrivals. He said that inefficiencies at the ground level were creating unnecessary hardship for cultivators, especially during peak harvesting periods. The veteran leader stressed that timely government intervention was essential to maintain confidence among farmers and ensure fair price realization.

The meeting also took place against the backdrop of increasing political debate over agricultural procurement in the state. Several districts in Madhya Pradesh have reported congestion at procurement centres, prompting criticism from the Opposition Congress. In response, Chief Minister Yadav has already begun conducting surprise inspections at mandis in districts such as Shajapur and Khargone, where he interacted directly with farmers and reviewed arrangements on the ground.
Officials in the state government have been instructed to address complaints promptly and improve infrastructure at procurement centres. Authorities are also working to streamline logistics and reduce delays in registration and transportation to ensure smoother operations during the procurement window. The issue has become a key administrative priority as the wheat procurement season continues.
In addition to policy discussions, Singh also extended a personal invitation to Chief Minister Yadav for a religious event in his hometown of Raghogarh. The event, titled “Shri Ram Mahayagya,” is scheduled from May 18 to May 28 and will include 151 fire rituals over ten days. The large-scale spiritual gathering is expected to draw participation from devotees across regions and is being organized with Singh and his family serving as patrons.
