Delhi Police have arrested a man with 25 criminal cases against him who allegedly used multiple identities and posed as the husband of a prominent leader to dupe a businessman in Dwarka. The accused, identified as Bhalinder Pal Singh alias Bhalinder Singh, GS Baki and Jasraj Sehgal, allegedly used a WhatsApp account displaying the Ashoka emblem to create an impression of influence and authority. Police said the case has revealed a wider trail of alleged cheating, impersonation and pending warrants.
The case came to light after Inder Singh Nagpal, owner of Glacier Holidays Private Limited in Dwarka's Sector 6, approached the police. According to investigators, the accused contacted Nagpal and introduced himself as the husband of a prominent leader. He allegedly claimed that a student's fee had to be paid urgently because the person responsible for making the payment was on leave, and promised that the money would later be reimbursed through the office.
Trusting the claim, Nagpal allegedly transferred Rs 1,69,389 to bank accounts provided by the accused. He also booked an Air India flight from Delhi to Lucknow as part of the alleged transaction. Police said the accused reinforced his claim of influence through a WhatsApp profile that carried the Ashoka emblem, creating the appearance that he had official connections.

Investigators later found that the WhatsApp account had been created using a SIM card obtained with a fake identity document and an incomplete address in Gurugram's Sector 43. After tracing the account's IP address, police reportedly narrowed their search to around 120 houses before identifying the accused, who was living under the name Jasraj Sehgal. Two Aadhaar cards bearing the same number were also recovered, while police said his actual identity was established as Bhalinder Pal Singh.
Police said Singh has been linked to 24 previous cases involving alleged cheating, extortion, impersonation and offences under the Prison Act. He had also been declared a proclaimed offender in four cases, while non-bailable warrants had been issued against him in four others. Investigators recovered the mobile phone allegedly used for the WhatsApp account carrying the Ashoka emblem during the arrest.
Police also seized a Scorpio-N that the accused allegedly used to project an image of being an influential person. According to investigators, the vehicle had been rented using a fake driving licence and Aadhaar card in the name of Aditya Patel. Singh has been sent to judicial custody, while further investigation is underway to trace other people who may have allegedly been cheated using the identities and methods attributed to him.
