A bus carrying over 50 passengers overturned in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Friday morning, leaving at least 20 people injured, police reported. The accident occurred near Kantiokteni under the Tumusingha Police Station limits when the driver lost control on a muddy canal road, causing the vehicle to veer off and fall into a roadside ditch.
The bus was traveling from Parjang in Dhenkanal to Bhubaneswar when the mishap took place. Local residents, police, and fire service personnel quickly responded, rushing the injured to Anlabereni Community Health Centre (CHC). Several seriously injured passengers were later transferred to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital for advanced treatment, according to a police officer.
One passenger, Subhasmita Mahalik, alleged that the driver took an unauthorized shortcut, deviating from the usual route, which led to the accident. Authorities at Tumusingha Police Station have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess whether negligence or road conditions contributed to the crash. The accident has raised concerns about road safety and driver accountability in the region.
