Chaos erupted at Pataliputra railway station in Patna on Saturday night as large groups of Bihar Police recruitment aspirants blocked train movement, pelted stones, and vandalised an exam special train during protests over alleged inadequate arrangements for a written examination. The situation escalated rapidly, prompting police to use tear gas shells, conduct a baton charge, and fire warning shots to disperse the crowd.
According to officials, hundreds of candidates had gathered at the station, many of whom were scheduled to appear for the Bihar Police Prohibition, Jail Warder and Mobile Squad Constable examination. Visuals from the site showed aspirants occupying platforms and railway tracks, shouting slogans and stopping trains from moving, leading to disruption of services at the busy junction.
The unrest intensified when sections of the crowd allegedly began damaging railway property and obstructing the movement of an exam special train arranged for candidates. Police personnel stationed at the site attempted to control the situation and engage with protesters, but officials said the crowd refused to disperse and resorted to stone-pelting, further escalating tensions.

Several police personnel, including Patna Inspector General Jitendra Rana, sustained minor injuries during the clashes. Authorities stated that around 250 individuals were directly involved in blocking train movement and that repeated attempts at negotiation failed before force was used to restore order. Officials have indicated that action will be taken against those responsible for violence and vandalism.
Patna District Magistrate Thiyagarajan SM said the aspirants’ demand for additional transportation arrangements had already been addressed through the provision of a special train. He added that while most candidates were peaceful, certain anti-social elements within the crowd were responsible for triggering violence and damaging public property at the station.
By Sunday morning, security personnel remained deployed at Pataliputra station as damage assessment and cleanup operations were underway. Railway officials reported broken infrastructure and scattered debris across the premises. Despite the disruption, authorities confirmed that the examination schedule remained unchanged and would proceed across all 38 districts of Bihar as planned.
