The Election Commission of India (ECI) revealed that 1 lakh electors remain “untraceable” in Bihar’s ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, as 98.01% of the state’s 7.89 crore electors have been covered. The ECI has received and digitized 7.17 crore enumeration forms, but 15 lakh forms are still pending, with two days left until the July 25 deadline.
The ECI reported 20 lakh deceased electors, 28 lakh who have permanently shifted, and 7 lakh enrolled at multiple locations. The draft electoral roll will be published on August 1, allowing electors and political parties to file objections or claims for inclusion by September 1. The final roll is set for September 30, ahead of Bihar’s assembly elections.
To reach remaining electors, especially those temporarily outside Bihar, the ECI has set up special camps in 5,683 urban wards and allows online form submission via electors.eci.gov.in or the ECINet app. The SIR aims to ensure a clean voter list by removing duplicates and ineligible entries.
