The government led by Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has successfully won a trust vote in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, securing the confidence of the House and reinforcing the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition’s majority in the state.
The floor test was held during a special one-day session of the 243-member Assembly, convened shortly after Choudhary assumed office as Chief Minister on April 15, 2026. The trust motion was moved by the Chief Minister, who sought formal approval from the House for his Council of Ministers to continue in office.
The NDA government entered the vote with a strong numerical advantage, having secured a comfortable majority in the Assembly following the recent political transition that saw the end of Nitish Kumar’s long tenure as Chief Minister. Despite the expected outcome, the trust vote was seen as an important procedural step to formally validate the new administration’s mandate.

During the session, legislative proceedings were conducted under tight scheduling as the Assembly focused solely on the confidence motion. Party leaders from the ruling alliance expressed unity and confidence in the government’s direction, while opposition members raised questions but were unable to significantly alter the balance of support.
The successful trust vote marks an early consolidation of authority for the Samrat Choudhary-led government, which has positioned itself as the first BJP-headed administration in Bihar’s history. The outcome is expected to provide the new leadership with political stability to pursue governance priorities in the coming months.
