Noida International Airport has announced an important leadership transition at its top management level. The airport has appointed its Chief Financial Officer, Nitu Samra, as the interim Chief Executive Officer. This decision has been made with immediate effect as part of an ongoing administrative restructuring process within the organisation. The announcement marks a significant change in the airport’s leadership framework during a crucial development phase.
According to an official statement issued by Noida International Airport, the change in leadership has been necessitated by regulatory directions. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has mandated that the Chief Executive Officer of any airport in India must be an Indian national. This requirement has led to the adjustment in the executive structure of the airport. The organisation stated that it is complying with all applicable aviation security and governance guidelines.
As part of this transition, Christoph Schnellmann, a Swiss national who has been serving as the CEO of Noida International Airport since August 2020, will step down from his current role. However, he will continue to remain associated with the airport in a new capacity. He has been appointed as the Executive Vice Chairman on the airport’s Board of Directors. This move is intended to retain his experience and ensure strategic continuity for the project.

Nitu Samra, who has been serving as the Chief Financial Officer of the airport since October 2021, has now been given additional responsibility as interim CEO. The airport stated that she will lead the organisation until the Board of Directors completes a formal and structured selection process for a permanent Chief Executive Officer. Her appointment reflects an internal leadership transition aimed at maintaining operational stability during this period of change.
The leadership update comes at a critical stage for Noida International Airport, which is one of India’s major upcoming aviation infrastructure projects. The airport was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month, marking a key milestone in its development journey. With construction and operational preparations progressing, the management transition is expected to ensure continuity and smooth execution of ongoing work. The Board is expected to begin the process of appointing a permanent CEO in the coming months.
