In a groundbreaking step toward transforming Arunachal Pradesh’s border region, the inaugural civil-military fusion meeting convened in Hawai, Anjaw district, on Monday, charting an ambitious roadmap to boost development and strategic coordination.
The meeting, a first of its kind, proposed establishing a joint coordination committee to streamline efforts between civil authorities and the military. Discussions centered on enhancing local livelihoods through Army procurement, with plans for regular fusion meetings to accelerate initiatives.
Anjaw Deputy Commissioner Millo Kojin urged stronger ties with the Army, emphasizing its critical role in emergency logistics and development. He highlighted the ITBP’s Mission Himveer, which sources 30% of supplies locally, as a model for the Army to adopt, aligning with the Viksit Bharat and Viksit Arunachal visions.

Kojin also pushed for CSD canteens in remote areas, skill development programs for youth, and awareness campaigns to boost Agniveer recruitment. He flagged administrative hurdles, including manpower shortages and road erosion in Mompani, as key challenges.
Brigadier Jaspreet Singh of the 82 Mountain Brigade advocated a ‘whole-of-nation’ approach, calling for civil support to promote tourism in Walong. He emphasized improving Agniveer application rates through local outreach.
Deputy Commander Col Deepak Kataria raised urgent concerns about power shortages in Walong and Kibithu, limited banking access, and inadequate helicopter services impacting tourism and emergency response. He stressed the need for immediate repairs to key FSB routes (14, 16, and 17) and better solid waste management.
Lt Col Vinay Kumar highlighted Operation Sadbhavna’s progress, including skill and healthcare workshops, with plans for AI and Robotics Labs in Anjaw. Captain Neeraj proposed a community radio centre in Walong, seeking administrative support for infrastructure and licensing.
This landmark meeting marks a bold step toward integrated development, promising a brighter future for Arunachal’s border communities.
