The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a critical weather alert on Saturday, forecasting very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh over the next 24 hours. The warning, effective until Sunday morning, August 3, 2025, highlights the potential for significant disruptions in the affected regions, prompting authorities to urge residents to take precautionary measures.

According to the IMD bulletin, Papum Pare and West Siang districts are “very likely” to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with intense spells at isolated locations, alongside thunderstorms and lightning. Similar adverse weather conditions are expected in East Kameng, Lower Siang, and Pakke Kessang districts, where heavy downpours could lead to flash flooding, landslides, and power outages, given the state’s hilly terrain and monsoon-prone climate. The IMD’s alert is based on satellite observations and weather models indicating an active monsoon trough influencing the region’s weather patterns.

The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has advised residents in the affected districts to remain vigilant, avoid travel during heavy rain, and steer clear of low-lying areas prone to flooding. Citizens are urged to secure loose objects, refrain from taking shelter under trees during lightning, and monitor updates through official channels, including the IMD and local administration. Emergency response teams have been placed on high alert to address potential incidents, with helplines activated for immediate assistance.
