The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a Thane resident on Thursday for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, officials revealed. The accused, employed at a key Mumbai organization, was reportedly ensnared in a “honey-trap” by a Pakistani operative posing as a woman on Facebook.
The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed, allegedly shared sensitive information about a critical installation via WhatsApp from November 2024 to March 2025.
Acting on a tip-off, the Thane ATS detained him along with two others, who were later released after questioning. The man faces charges under Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act for espionage and Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for criminal conspiracy.

This arrest aligns with a broader crackdown on Pakistan-linked espionage networks, intensified after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor. Authorities are probing further to uncover potential accomplices and assess the full extent of the breach, amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions.
