The Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) issued a flood alert on Monday, urging residents along the Godavari river to remain vigilant due to rapidly rising water levels triggered by heavy rainfall in upstream areas.
The Godavari river reached 35.6 feet at Bhadrachalam in Telangana and 14.9 meters at Kunavaram in Andhra Pradesh by Monday morning, according to an APSDMA release. At Polavaram, the water level hit 10.2 meters, while Dowleswaram recorded an inflow and outflow of 5.5 lakh cusecs. Although a formal flood warning has not been declared, water is being released downstream to manage the surge.
The APSDMA also advised residents near the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers to exercise caution as water levels continue to rise, emphasizing the need for preparedness to mitigate potential flood risks.
