Union Home Minister Amit Shah has called for the creation of an “IPL-like platform” for India’s design sector, aimed at turning talent into sustainable career opportunities. Speaking at a recent event, Shah emphasized the need for structured exposure, mentorship, and opportunities for young designers to showcase their skills on a national and international stage.
Shah highlighted that India’s design industry has immense potential, with a growing number of talented professionals entering fields such as fashion, product design, graphic design, and industrial design. However, many face challenges in gaining recognition and converting creativity into viable careers. He stressed that an organized platform, similar in visibility and structure to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in cricket, could bridge this gap.
According to Shah, such a platform could provide aspiring designers with access to industry experts, live competitions, networking opportunities, and mentorship programs. This would not only enhance their skillsets but also offer practical exposure to market demands, helping them transition from talent to professional success.

The minister also pointed out that the government is exploring initiatives to support creative sectors through funding, incubators, and collaborations with industry stakeholders. Shah underscored that fostering talent in design is critical for India’s broader economic growth and global competitiveness in creative industries.
Experts and participants at the event welcomed Shah’s proposal, noting that visibility and structured platforms are often missing for designers compared to other fields like sports or entertainment. They suggested that a nationwide competitive format could inspire innovation and encourage more youth to pursue careers in design.
Shah concluded by urging stakeholders—including educational institutions, industry leaders, and policymakers—to collaborate in creating programs that nurture talent, build professional networks, and ultimately position India as a global hub for design excellence.
